Traumatic Brain Injury

Los Angeles Area
Traumatic Brain Injury Lawyers

For all its complexity, sensitivity and importance — the brain is actually one of the least protected organs in the human body. It is protected from the outside world only by a thin layer of bone. Inside, cerebrospinal fluid surrounds the brain allowing it to float freely while cushioning it from direct contact with the skull's interior.

At the Law Offices of Renee J. Nordstrand, we understand two very important things necessary to achieving maximum compensation in cases of traumatic brain injury (TBI). First, we understand the medical science behind these injuries and how to explain complex issues of anatomy and neurological function to judges and juries. Second, we understand that each victim and each victim's family are affected by these injuries in unique and profound ways.

We are here to help. Let us fight for you now.

What Causes a Traumatic Brain Injury?

Although there are many different types of brain injuries — traumatic brain injury is the most common. Conservatively, it is estimated to affect more than one million new Americans each year.

In most cases, these brain injuries caused by a sudden, direct blow to the head. A punch, a knock against a steering wheel or dashboard, a fall from an elevated height — any type of blow like these can suffice. In a fewer, but still significant number of cases, a traumatic brain injury can also be caused by an indirect blow to the head. For instance, the sudden deceleration that happens in a car accident can be enough to cause a traumatic brain injury, even without the head itself touching or impacting anything. Another, even sadder example of this type of injury is "Shaken Baby Syndrome."

In either case, the effects may be very mild (temporary confusion and headache), moderate to severe (impaired cognitive ability, memory and personality or behavior changes) or — in roughly 50,000 cases each year — deadly.
